YouTube Premium Payment Declined? Accepted Payment Methods by Country, the 3-Day Fix Window and 30-Day Pause, Changing the Card, Cancelling and Refunds, and Paying with a Prepaid Virtual Card (USDT / USDC) — 2026

YouTube Premium payment declined or renewal failed? YouTube Premium is billed by Google from your Google payments profile, and the accepted methods differ by country (the US list is Amex, Discover, Mastercard, PayPal, Visa and Cash App; Singapore only cards and PayPal; India requires a payment method issued in India). Current US prices, common decline reasons (insufficient funds, wrong billing ZIP, unsupported card types such as some prepaid cards, Google Play not accepting virtual credit cards in the Android app), the 3-day fix window and 30-day pause after a failed renewal, how to change the card or cancel at youtube.com/paid_memberships, refunds, real charge data from our own cards (2 successful charges, then 18 declined retries after a price rise), and paying with a prepaid virtual card bought with USDT or USDC. Updated October 2026.

Short answer: YouTube Premium is charged by Google to the payment method in your Google payments profile, and the card statement usually shows GOOGLE*YOUTUBEPREMIUM plus a country. Which methods work depends on the country of that profile; Google says available methods "vary by country", and some countries require a locally issued method. Most declines come from insufficient funds after local-currency conversion or a price rise, billing details that do not match the bank, an issuer that blocks foreign or subscription charges, or a card type Google does not accept. After a failed renewal you have 3 days to fix it while YouTube retries; after that the membership is paused for 30 days. If your local card keeps failing, a prepaid virtual card bought with USDT or USDC, such as Pink Card from pinkcard.cc, can be added on youtube.com in a browser.

Written by the Pink Card team (pinkcard.cc). YouTube rules and prices are taken from youtube.com/premium and the YouTube and Google Play Help Centers (accepted payment methods, fixing billing issues, changing the payment method, cancelling, refunds) as of 2026-10-20 and may change; the Google payment window shows what you will actually pay. Pink Card fees are those shown on the purchase page on 2026-10-20. Pink Card is not affiliated with Google or YouTube.

What YouTube Premium costs (US, youtube.com/premium)

  • Individual: $15.99 a month, or 12 months for $159.99.
  • Family: $26.99 a month for you and up to 5 household members aged 13+.
  • Student: $8.99 a month, with annual verification.
  • Premium Lite: $8.99 a month; Google says its benefits cover most non-music content excluding Shorts, and ads may still appear when you search or browse.
  • Eligible new members may get a 1-month $0 trial. Other countries are priced in local currency; for example Singapore’s individual plan was billed at S$13.98 and then S$15.98 a month on our card.

Accepted payment methods (examples from Google’s help pages)

  • United States: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, PayPal, Visa, Cash App.
  • United Kingdom: American Express, Mastercard, Visa, PayPal, Google Play balance, PaysafeCard, and EE, O2 or Three phone billing.
  • India: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, BHIM UPI, UPI Autopay and Google Play balance; Google says you must use a form of payment issued in India.
  • Singapore: American Express, Mastercard, PayPal and Visa only (no Google Play balance).
  • Your Google payments profile has a fixed country. Google says you cannot change it; if you move, you create a new profile, and existing subscriptions keep billing the old one.
  • YouTube asks you to state your real location when you sign up and says a subscription may be cancelled if you misrepresent it, for example with a changed network exit region. This guide does not cover switching regions.

Why YouTube Premium declines a card

  1. Insufficient funds. A local-currency price converted to USD, or a price rise at renewal, can make the charge a little higher than the balance.
  2. Card details that do not match the bank: CVC, expiry date or billing ZIP code.
  3. An expired card.
  4. An unsupported card type. Google’s declined-payment page gives "a prepaid card" as an example of an unsupported form of payment, so some prepaid cards are refused.
  5. The issuer blocks the charge. Outside the US, Google reminds you that the card and bank must support international transactions.
  6. Subscribing inside the Android app. That purchase is billed by Google Play, and Google Play lists virtual credit cards (VCC) as unsupported. With a virtual or prepaid card, subscribe at youtube.com/premium in a browser instead.
  7. Repeated attempts. Several quick retries on the same card make issuers and Google’s risk checks refuse it for a while.
On iPhone, subscribing in the YouTube app is billed by Apple at Apple’s price, and you cancel it in your Apple ID settings. In the Android app it is billed by Google Play. Do not run a web subscription and an app subscription at the same time, or you pay twice.

After a failed renewal: 3 days, then a 30-day pause

  • Google’s help page: you have 3 days to fix the issue before losing access, and YouTube regularly retries the charge during that time.
  • If it still cannot charge you after 3 days, the membership enters a "Paused" state for 30 days. If you update your payment information during that time, it should be restored at the next charge attempt.
  • An empty card does not end the subscription. If you do not want it, cancel it, otherwise the retries continue.

Change the card or cancel

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships and click Manage membership.
  2. To change the card: click Edit next to the current payment method, choose another method or Add credit or debit card, enter the card and billing address, and click Submit. You can also do it at pay.google.com under Subscriptions & services.
  3. To cancel: Manage membership → Deactivate → Continue to cancel → pick a reason → Yes, cancel. Benefits continue until the end of the billing period, and you are not charged again.

Refunds

  • Cancelling turns off auto-renewal; Google does not refund the time between cancelling and the end of the period.
  • Partially used prepaid plans are not refunded.
  • If you want to cancel immediately with a refund, or something you paid for does not work, contact YouTube support.
  • Purchases made through Apple follow Apple’s refund policy.

Our own YouTube Premium charge data

We checked charges on our own cards with the merchant name GOOGLE*YOUTUBEPREMIUM SINGAPORE. One card paid S$13.98 on 2026-08-03 ($11.14 on the card) and S$13.98 again on 2026-09-03 ($11.23); both succeeded. On 2026-10-03 the renewal had risen to S$15.98 (about $12.77) and was declined because the card balance no longer covered it (the issuer’s "cumulative amount limit"). Google then retried roughly every 12 hours: 13 declines in 6 days, then 5 more after the card was blocked on 2026-10-09, 18 declined attempts in total up to 2026-10-11. Earlier, in June, S$1 card checks failed on another card (daily limit, then blocked) before a second card passed the check, which was then reversed. That gives 2 successful charges and 18 declines in the 90 days to 2026-10-20. We cannot see whether these were web or app subscriptions, and one user is a small sample, so we cannot promise every card or renewal will pass.

Two lessons from that card: the month of a price rise is when renewals break, so check the new price and keep the balance above it; and failed renewals are retried for days, each one a separate declined transaction. Top up or cancel on the day of the first decline.

Pay YouTube Premium with a prepaid virtual card (USDT or USDC)

  1. Open pinkcard.cc/en and choose an amount: presets start at $110 ($110, $220, $500, $1000), or enter a custom amount from $100.
  2. Pay with USDT on BEP-20 (shown as BSC or BNB Smart Chain on most exchanges; network fee usually under $1) or ERC-20, or with USDC on ERC-20. Send exactly the amount shown, on exactly the network you picked.
  3. Enter your email twice. No account and no sign-up are needed.
  4. The card number, expiry, CVV and billing address arrive by email about 1–2 minutes after the payment confirms (check spam).
  5. In a browser, open youtube.com/premium (or youtube.com/paid_memberships to replace a failing card), add the card with the billing address from the email, check the amount and currency, and submit once.
  6. Keep the balance above the next renewal. Top-ups of the same card usually arrive within about 30 minutes, and the number does not change, so Google keeps billing it.

How much to load (worked examples, before tax)

  • Individual monthly at $15.99: $15.99 + $1 per transaction + $2.50 monthly card fee = $19.49 a month, so a $110 card covers about five months.
  • Individual yearly at $159.99: $159.99 + $1 = $160.99, which needs the $220 preset.
  • Family at $26.99: $26.99 + $1 + $2.50 = $30.49 a month, about three months on a $110 card.
  • Prices in another currency are converted at the day’s rate, so keep about 5% extra on the card.
  • Paying for a $110 card: ($110 + $10) × 1.03 = $123.60. Topping up $100 later: $5 + ($100 + $5) × 5% = $10.25 in fees, $110.25 in total.

Pink Card fees (as of 2026-10-20)

  • Card issuance: $10 one-time, plus a 3% service fee on (card amount + $10).
  • From the card balance after activation: $1 per transaction and $2.50 per month.
  • Failed authorizations are charged $1 too (at most 3 failed charges per card per month). YouTube retries failed renewals, so fund the card or cancel before it runs dry.
  • Top-up of the same card: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5), usually on the card within about 30 minutes. Full fee table: pinkcard.cc/en/fees.
  • Once the card details are emailed, the order cannot be cancelled, so double-check your email address before paying.
