ChatGPT Pro Payment Declined? Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 Are Monthly Only, Why a $100–$500 Charge Fails on a Prepaid Card, How Much to Keep and Top Up, and Real Pro-Size Charges from Our Cards (USDT / USDC) — 2026

ChatGPT Pro comes in three monthly plans, Pro 100 ($100), Pro 200 ($200) and Pro 500 ($500), with no annual billing, and tax can be added at checkout. On our cards over the last 90 days, ChatGPT subscription charges of $150 or more succeeded 23 times on 17 cards and were declined 24 times on 8 cards: 19 of the declines were the balance or a card limit being short and 5 hit cards that had already been closed. Why Pro payments fail, what each decline message means, how much to keep on the card, how to top up with USDT or USDC, and why to wait until a top-up lands before retrying.

Short answer: ChatGPT Pro is now three monthly plans, Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500. There is no annual option, so the whole amount is charged to your card in one go every month, and tax can be added on top depending on your billing address. When a Pro payment is declined on a prepaid card, the card type is rarely the issue. On our cards it was almost always one of two things: the balance was a little short of the full (taxed) charge, or the card had already been closed while ChatGPT kept trying to renew on it.

Written by the Pink Card team (pinkcard.cc). Plan prices and billing rules come from the OpenAI Help Center article “About ChatGPT Pro tiers”, opened on 2026-10-22. Charge data comes from our own cards from 2026-07-24 to 2026-10-22 (the last 90 days, UTC): ChatGPT subscription charges of $150 or more (OPENAI *CHATGPT SUBSCR, plus GOOGLE *ChatGPT for the Android app). Fees are the live settings on 2026-10-22. Pink Card is not affiliated with OpenAI.

How much ChatGPT Pro costs

  • Pro 100: $100 a month. Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, with less usage than Pro 200.
  • Pro 200: $200 a month, more usage than Pro 100. New Pro 200 subscriptions get a lower allowance than before; people who had Pro 200 between September 22 and September 29, 2026 keep the old allowance until October 29, 2026. The price stays $200.
  • Pro 500: $500 a month, the most usage and the only Pro plan with Ultrafast.
  • Monthly only. OpenAI: “Pro is billed monthly. Annual billing and payment for multiple months in advance are not available.”
  • Tax: depending on your billing address, tax can be added at checkout. The checkout page shows the final amount; that is the number to plan for.
  • Credits for Codex and other eligible features are bought separately in Settings → Usage, and each purchase is its own card charge.
  • Prices change; check chatgpt.com/pricing for the current price before you pay.

Why a ChatGPT Pro payment gets declined

  1. “The value is greater than the maximum single transaction value”: the charge is bigger than what is available on the card right now. On our cards: 10 of the 24 Pro-size declines, on 3 cards.
  2. “You have exceeded the cumulative amount limit for this card”: the card has already spent what was loaded on it, so the next charge does not fit. 8 declines, on 3 cards.
  3. “Blocked”: the card had already been closed, and ChatGPT was still trying to renew on it. 5 declines, on 3 cards, all of them closed cards.
  4. “You have exceeded the daily transaction amount limit”: 1 decline. The same renewal went through the next day after a top-up.
  5. Tax on top of the list price: a card holding exactly $200 cannot pay $210. On our cards Pro-size charges came through as $200.00 and also as amounts like $210.11 and $263.93.
  6. A top-up that was paid but has not reached the card yet: the card still has the old balance, so the charge fails with one of the first two messages above.
  7. Problems that are not about money: billing address not matching the card, 3D Secure not completed, or a bank card that blocks international USD charges. These are covered in the ChatGPT Plus guide linked below; they apply to Pro the same way.

So 19 of our 24 Pro-size declines were the balance or a card limit being short, and the other 5 were renewals on cards that no longer existed. None of them was the merchant refusing the card type.

Real Pro-size charges on our cards (last 90 days)

  • 23 successful ChatGPT subscription charges of $150 or more, on 17 cards: 18 at exactly $200 (one of them billed by Google Play as GOOGLE *ChatGPT), plus $210.11, $263.93, $154.25, $162.70 and $182.12. We cannot see which plan or billing event each amount was, so read the odd amounts as “tax or a plan change”, not as a price list.
  • 24 declines on 8 cards: maximum single transaction value 10, cumulative amount limit 8, Blocked 5, daily amount limit 1.
  • Declines often come in pairs: on 3 cards each attempt showed up as two declines 4–9 seconds apart, the second one an automatic retry. One click on Subscribe can therefore mean two failed transactions.
  • Renewals keep coming: on one card whose balance ran out, a $200 renewal was declined 8 times over 13 days (first for the cumulative limit, then as Blocked once the card had been closed).
  • 3 of the 8 cards with declines later paid a Pro-size charge on the same card number, each time after a top-up had landed on the card.
  • We have not seen a $500 charge in this window, so we have no data for Pro 500 yet.

Declined right after a top-up? Wait for it to land

A top-up is not on the card the second you pay. Ours usually land within about 10 minutes of payment, 30 at most. On one card, two top-ups were paid and a $154 ChatGPT charge was tried twice before they landed, giving four declines in six minutes; the top-ups reached the card a few minutes later, and the same charge went through about five minutes after that. Each failed attempt costs $1 (at most 3 failed charges per card per month), so check that the new balance shows on the card first, then retry once.

How much to keep on the card

  • Each month: the charge shown at checkout + $1 per-transaction fee, plus the $2.50 monthly card fee.
  • Pro 100: $103.50 a month without tax; $113.50 at 10% tax ($110 + $1 + $2.50).
  • Pro 200: $203.50 a month without tax; $223.50 at 10% tax ($220 + $1 + $2.50).
  • Pro 500: $503.50 a month without tax; $553.50 at 10% tax ($550 + $1 + $2.50).
  • ChatGPT renews on the same date every month (142 of the 150 ChatGPT renewals we checked came 30 or 31 days after the previous one). Top up a day or two before that date, not after the decline.
  • Not keeping Pro? Cancel it in Settings (or in Apple / Google Play if you subscribed in the app) before the card runs dry, so it is not retried for days.

Top up the same card with USDT or USDC

  1. Open pinkcard.cc/en, click "Balance & Top Up" at the top, and enter the 16-digit card number and the 3-digit lookup code.
  2. Choose an amount (minimum $30) and pick USDT or USDC.
  3. Send exactly the amount shown on exactly the network you picked: USDT on BEP-20 (BSC) or ERC-20, USDC on ERC-20 only.
  4. The top-up usually reaches the card within about 10 minutes (30 at most). The card number does not change, so ChatGPT keeps billing the same card.
  5. Top-up cost: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5). $110 for Pro 100 is $120.75; $230 for Pro 200 is $246.75; $560 for Pro 500 is $593.25.

Pink Card fees (as of 2026-10-22)

  • Card issuance: $10 one-time, plus a 3% service fee on (card amount + $10). Presets start at $110; custom amounts from $100.
  • For Pro 100: a custom $130 card costs (130 + 10) × 1.03 = $144.20 and leaves $19 after a $110 charge and the $1 fee.
  • For Pro 200: a custom $230 card costs (230 + 10) × 1.03 = $247.20 and leaves $9 after a $220 charge and the $1 fee.
  • For Pro 500: a custom $560 card costs (560 + 10) × 1.03 = $587.10 and leaves $9 after a $550 charge and the $1 fee.
  • From the card balance after activation: $1 per transaction and $2.50 per month. Failed authorizations are charged $1 too (at most 3 failed charges per card per month).
  • Top-up of the same card: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5), minimum $30. Full fee table: pinkcard.cc/en/fees.
  • Pay for a new card or a top-up with USDT (BEP-20 or ERC-20) or USDC (ERC-20). The card details (number, expiry, CVV and billing address) are emailed about 1–2 minutes after payment.
Use ChatGPT where OpenAI offers it and follow its terms. OpenAI says sharing account credentials and reselling access are prohibited, so a shared Pro account is not a way around the price. Pink Card is a payment tool; most charges go through, but some are still declined. If one is, read the reason in the transaction history before trying again.

FAQ

How much is ChatGPT Pro?

Pro 100 is $100 a month, Pro 200 is $200 a month and Pro 500 is $500 a month, and tax can be added at checkout. Check chatgpt.com/pricing for the current price.

Is there an annual ChatGPT Pro plan?

No. OpenAI says Pro is billed monthly and annual billing or paying several months in advance is not available.

Why was my ChatGPT Pro payment declined?

On our cards, 19 of 24 declined ChatGPT charges of $150 or more were the balance or a card limit being short, and 5 were renewals on cards that had already been closed. Keep the full checkout amount plus $1 on the card, and if you just topped up, wait until it lands before retrying.

What does “maximum single transaction value” mean on a ChatGPT Pro charge?

The charge is larger than what is available on the card at that moment, for example $210 with tax against a $200 balance, or a top-up that has not landed yet. Top up, wait for it to show on the card, then retry once.

Does a failed Pro renewal cancel my subscription?

Not by itself. OpenAI says to follow the payment recovery steps in your billing email for web subscriptions, or the store payment settings for Apple and Google Play.

Can I pay ChatGPT Pro with USDT?

OpenAI does not take USDT or USDC directly. You can buy a Pink Card prepaid virtual card with USDT (BEP-20 or ERC-20) or USDC (ERC-20) and pay ChatGPT with the card.
