Notion payment failed, short answer: on the web Notion only takes a credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or a card saved in Stripe Link, and charges the whole billing period upfront in USD, per member, with tax added for your billing country. A Notion payment usually fails because the issuing bank refuses foreign USD charges, the billing address does not match, the balance covers the list price but not the tax, or a renewal hits a card that has run low. After a failed renewal Notion retries up to 8 times over the next month, then limits the workspace and moves it to Free. Fix the balance and address, then retry once from Settings → Billing. If your local card does not work, a prepaid virtual card bought with USDT or USDC, such as Pink Card from pinkcard.cc, can be added to your own Notion workspace.
Written by the Pink Card team (pinkcard.cc). Notion prices and billing rules are taken from notion.com/pricing and the Notion help center as of October 2026 and may change; the Billing page shows the exact amount. Pink Card fees are those shown on the purchase page on 2026-10-15. Pink Card is not affiliated with Notion.
How Notion charges
- Plus: $10 per member per month billed yearly, or $12 billed monthly.
- Business: $20 per member per month billed yearly, or $24 billed monthly. Since May 2025 the full Notion AI (Notion Agent, AI meeting notes, enterprise search) comes with Business; Free and Plus only get a limited trial.
- Charges are taken upfront for the whole billing period. Adding members mid-cycle creates an extra prorated charge.
- Tax (VAT, GST or sales tax) for your billing country is added on top. A $24 monthly seat with 20% VAT is charged $28.80.
- Payment methods on the web: credit or debit card, Apple Pay, and cards saved in Stripe Link. You cannot pay in the Android app; a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play is managed there.
Why Notion declines a card
- The issuing bank refuses the charge. Many banks block foreign online or recurring USD payments to software services by default, and the checkout only shows "card declined" or "payment failed".
- Billing address mismatch. The country, address and postal code are checked against the issuer; a wrong postal code is a common silent decline. The billing country also decides the tax, so a wrong country changes the amount.
- The balance covers the price but not the tax. A card with exactly $24 cannot pay a $24 seat that is charged $28.80 with VAT.
- A renewal or a new member charge on a card that has run low. On our own cards this is the only reason Notion charges have failed.
- Too many attempts. Retrying the same card again and again, or switching between several cards in a few minutes, triggers risk checks. Waiting is usually the only fix.
What happens after a failed renewal
Notion emails you each time a payment fails and retries the charge up to 8 times over the following month. If it still cannot charge the card, the workspace is first restricted to limited access and later downgraded to the Free plan. Your pages stay, but paid features stop. With a prepaid card every failed retry can also cost a declined-transaction fee, so top up or change the card on the day you get the first failure email instead of waiting for the retries.
Fix it in this order
- Stop clicking Upgrade or Retry. Note the exact error text and the amount on the Billing page, including tax.
- Make sure the card balance covers that amount plus about $1 if your prepaid card charges per transaction.
- In Settings → Billing, choose Edit method and enter the card with the billing address exactly as the issuer has it. Submit once.
- If the workspace is already restricted, update the card first; paid access comes back once the next charge or retry goes through.
- If you subscribed in the iPhone app, fix the payment in the App Store instead; Notion’s web billing cannot change it.
- If it still fails, wait several hours before trying again, or use a different card.
Does a prepaid virtual card work for Notion?
We checked Notion charges (merchant NOTION LABS, INC. SAN FRANCISCO) on our own cards. Between June and October 2026, 2 Pink Cards had 3 successful Notion charges: two of $28.80 in June, which matches a $24 monthly seat plus 20% VAT, and one of $6.00 on 2026-10-13. The only 2 failures were July renewals of $28.80 on the first card, two days apart, both declined because the card balance was below the renewal amount. The sample is small, so we cannot promise every card and every charge will pass; start with one seat and keep the balance above the next renewal.
Pay Notion with a prepaid virtual card (USDT or USDC)
- Open pinkcard.cc/en and choose an amount: presets start at $110 ($110, $220, $500, $1000), or enter a custom amount from $100.
- Pay with USDT on BEP-20 (shown as BSC or BNB Smart Chain on most exchanges; network fee usually under $1) or ERC-20, or with USDC on ERC-20. Send exactly the amount shown, on exactly the network you picked.
- Enter your email twice. No account and no sign-up are needed.
- The card number, expiry, CVV and billing address arrive by email about 1–2 minutes after the payment confirms (check spam).
- In Notion, open Settings → Billing, pick the plan and billing period, enter the card with the billing address from the email, check the total including tax and submit once.
- Before each renewal, top up the same card. The number does not change, so Notion keeps charging it without re-entering anything. Top-ups usually reach the card within about 30 minutes of payment.
How much to load (worked examples)
- Plus, 1 member, monthly: $12 + $1 per transaction + $2.50 monthly card fee = $15.50 per month before tax, so the $110 preset covers about 7 months.
- Business, 1 member, monthly, with 20% VAT: $28.80 + $1 + $2.50 = $32.30 per month, so the $110 preset covers about 3 months.
- Business, 1 member, yearly: $240 + 20% VAT = $288, plus $1 = $289 at checkout. A custom $300 card costs ($300 + $10) × 1.03 = $319.30 in USDT or USDC.
- Paying for a $110 card: ($110 + $10) × 1.03 = $123.60. A $220 card: ($220 + $10) × 1.03 = $236.90.
- Topping up $100 later: $5 + ($100 + $5) × 5% = $10.25 in fees, $110.25 in total.
Pink Card fees (as of 2026-10-15)
- Card issuance: $10 one-time, plus a 3% service fee on (card amount + $10).
- From the card balance after activation: $1 per transaction and $2.50 per month.
- Failed authorizations are charged $1 too (at most 3 failed charges per card per month). Notion’s automatic renewal retries count, so keep the balance above the next renewal.
- Top-up of the same card: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5), usually on the card within about 30 minutes. Full fee table: pinkcard.cc/en/fees.
- Once the card details are emailed, the order cannot be cancelled, so double-check your email address before paying.
