ChatGPT Go Payment Declined? The $8 Plan Explained (No Annual Billing, Ads, Go vs Plus), Why the Charge Changes in Local Currency, and Paying ChatGPT Go with a Prepaid Virtual Card (USDT / USDC) — 2026

ChatGPT Go payment declined or card not accepted? What ChatGPT Go costs ($8 a month on chatgpt.com/pricing in the US, before tax; monthly only, no annual billing), what it includes and leaves out compared with Plus ($20), the ads note, why the dollar amount moves when you are billed in local currency such as yen, no refund when you downgrade from Plus or Pro, the usual decline causes, real Go charges on our own cards (6 cards, 12 successful, 3 declined), and how to pay ChatGPT Go from USDT or USDC with a prepaid virtual card. Updated October 2026.

ChatGPT Go payment declined, short answer: ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s low-cost plan between Free and Plus. chatgpt.com/pricing lists it at $8 a month (US price, before tax), billed automatically every month; OpenAI’s help center says Go, Plus and Pro currently have no annual billing and cannot be prepaid for several months. Web subscriptions are charged to your card under the same merchant name as Plus, OPENAI *CHATGPT SUBSCR. In some countries the price is set in local currency, for example yen, so the dollar amount on a USD card changes with the exchange rate. Go is cheap, but a card holding exactly $8 still fails once tax or conversion is added. If your local card does not work, a prepaid virtual card bought with USDT or USDC, such as Pink Card from pinkcard.cc, can be added to your own ChatGPT account.

Written by the Pink Card team (pinkcard.cc). Prices are taken from chatgpt.com/pricing and chatgpt.com/plans/go; rules from the OpenAI Help Center (What is ChatGPT Go, Multi-currency billing, Why was my credit card declined, Troubleshooting renewal payments), checked on 2026-10-23. OpenAI says Go pricing may change, so the checkout is the source of truth. Pink Card fees are those shown on the purchase page on 2026-10-23. Pink Card is not affiliated with OpenAI.

What ChatGPT Go costs and includes

  • Price: Go $8 a month, Plus $20 a month, Pro from $100 a month on the pricing page; tax is added based on your billing address.
  • No annual plan: the help center says annual billing and paying for several months in advance are not supported for Go, Plus or Pro.
  • Included: everything in Free plus more messages with tools, more uploads and image creation, and longer memory; projects, tasks and custom GPTs are available subject to limits.
  • Not included: Think on Go uses GPT-5.6 Luna and does not include GPT-5.6 Sol; legacy models such as 4o are not available; some advanced features need Plus or higher.
  • Ads: the pricing page notes “This plan may include ads”, and the help center says OpenAI may start testing ads in Go. If that matters to you, choose Plus.
  • API usage is not included and is billed separately.

Go or Plus, and switching between them

Go covers everyday chat, writing and occasional uploads and images. Plus adds GPT-6 advanced reasoning, expanded deep research and more Codex usage, without the ads note. You change plans in Settings → Account. On one of our cards, a ¥1,400 Go charge was followed a minute later by ¥1,600 and then ¥3,000 every month, which looks like an upgrade to Plus with the difference charged at once (our reading of the amounts; check your own invoice). Going down from Plus or Pro to Go is not refunded: OpenAI says your current plan stays active until the end of the cycle, then you are charged the Go rate.

Why the charge is not always $8.00

OpenAI says Go purchases are in USD, with local-currency billing in a limited set of countries (the Multi-currency billing list includes yen, pounds, euros and dozens more). If you are billed in local currency, a USD card is charged the converted amount each month: one of our cards pays ¥1,400 a month, which came to $8.76, $9.02 and $9.08. Tax changes the amount too: one charge on our cards was $8.48, exactly $8 plus 6%, most likely sales tax from the billing address. Load at least $8 × 1.1 to be safe.

Go bought in the iPhone or Android app is billed by Apple or Google Play in local currency and is managed there, separately from a web subscription. Google Play says it does not support virtual credit cards, so with a virtual card, subscribe on the web.

Why ChatGPT Go declines a card

  1. The issuing bank refuses foreign online or recurring USD charges.
  2. The balance covers $8 but not the total after tax or currency conversion ($8.48, or $9.08 for a ¥1,400 charge).
  3. The card is closed. Both “Blocked” Go declines on our cards hit cards that had already been closed while the subscription kept renewing. Change the card or cancel in Settings → Account before you stop using a card.
  4. Wrong card number, expiry, CVV or billing address. One Go charge on our cards failed with a CVV mismatch and went through three minutes later once the details were corrected.
  5. Unsupported region: Go is only offered where ChatGPT is supported, and OpenAI says both you and the card issuer need to be in a supported country.
  6. Too many attempts in a few minutes trip risk checks. After two or three declines, wait several hours.

OpenAI’s decline article says prepaid cards cannot be used to buy API credits; it does not say that for subscriptions, and Go charges on our prepaid cards have gone through (below).

Does a prepaid virtual card work for ChatGPT Go?

We checked Go charges on our own cards (merchant OPENAI *CHATGPT SUBSCR SAN FRANCISCO, identified by the $8.00, $8.48 and ¥1,400 monthly amounts) up to 2026-10-23 19:32 UTC: 6 cards, 12 successful charges totalling $100.18, and 3 declines. Two declines were “Blocked” on closed cards and one was a CVV mismatch that succeeded on retry. The steadiest example is a $100 card that has paid $8 on the 8th of every month since May, six in a row, and is still active. Another card started on Go at $8 in May and has paid $200 a month (the Pro price) since July without changing the card. The sample is small, so we cannot promise every card and every charge will pass.

Pay ChatGPT Go with a prepaid virtual card (USDT or USDC)

  1. Open pinkcard.cc/en and choose an amount: presets start at $110 ($110, $220, $500, $1000), or enter a custom amount from $100.
  2. Pay with USDT on BEP-20 (shown as BSC or BNB Smart Chain on most exchanges; network fee usually under $1) or ERC-20, or with USDC on ERC-20. Send exactly the amount shown, on exactly the network you picked.
  3. Enter your email twice. No account and no sign-up are needed.
  4. The card number, expiry, CVV and billing address arrive by email about 1–2 minutes after the payment confirms (check spam).
  5. In ChatGPT on the web, open your profile → Upgrade Plan → Go, enter the card with the billing address from the email, check the total and submit once.
  6. Top up the same card before the balance runs low. The number does not change, so ChatGPT keeps charging it. Top-ups usually reach the card within about 10 minutes of payment (30 at most).

How much to load (worked examples)

  • Go at $8: $8 + $1 per transaction + $2.50 monthly card fee = $11.50 a month, so the $110 preset covers nine months ($103.50).
  • Go with 6% tax ($8.48): $11.98 a month; nine months is $107.82, still within $110.
  • Go billed at ¥1,400 (about $9.08): about $12.58 a month, so about eight months on $110.
  • Upgrading to Plus later: $20 + $1 + $2.50 = $23.50 a month before tax.
  • Paying for a $110 card: ($110 + $10) × 1.03 = $123.60. Topping up the $30 minimum later: $5 + ($30 + $5) × 5% = $6.75 in fees, $36.75 in total, a little over two Go months.

Pink Card fees (as of 2026-10-23)

  • Card issuance: $10 one-time, plus a 3% service fee on (card amount + $10).
  • From the card balance after activation: $1 per transaction and $2.50 per month.
  • Failed authorizations are charged $1 too (at most 3 failed charges per card per month), so keep the balance above the next renewal.
  • Top-up of the same card: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5), minimum top-up $30, usually on the card within about 10 minutes (30 at most). Full fee table: pinkcard.cc/en/fees.
  • Once the card details are emailed, the order cannot be cancelled, so double-check your email address before paying.
Check that ChatGPT is offered in your country and follow OpenAI’s terms; Pink Card is a payment tool and does not replace complying with a service’s rules.
